Yes. The full terminal and agent mode are free to download and use. Every device gets free agent credits, and Mel defaults to free models — so you can do real work without paying or configuring anything.
Credits meter agent usage. Free models and the included free credits cover everyday use; heavier use or frontier models like Claude and GPT draw from your plan's credits.
No. Mel talks to a hosted relay that holds the model keys, so it works out of the box. You can also bring your own provider key if you'd rather use your own account.
