Install

Install Mel on Windows

The installer is a per-user install with no admin prompt.

    Download the installer

    Download Mel-windows-x86_64-setup.exe. On a Snapdragon or other ARM64 PC, download Mel-windows-aarch64-setup.exe, the native ARM64 build.

    Run it

    Mel installs into your user folder, with a Start menu entry and an uninstall entry in Settings → Apps.

    If SmartScreen asks

    Mel for Windows is code-signed. SmartScreen may still ask while the certificate builds its reputation. Click More info, then Run anyway.

    Or use the portable build

    Prefer no install? Extract Mel-windows-x86_64.zip anywhere and run mel.exe.

After you install

Start the agent

    Open a project

    cd into a project folder. The terminal needs no account and no key.

  2. 02
    Sign in for the agent

    The AI agent needs a free Mel account. Sign in with Apple, Google, GitHub or email.

  3. 03
    Add a key, or use credits

    On the Free plan, add your own provider key in Settings → AI. On Pro, Max or Business, Mel's credits work with no key.

  4. 04
    Ask in plain English

    Say what you want built or fixed. You approve the steps you choose to approve.
