Install

Install Mel on your Mac

One build for Apple Silicon and Intel, on macOS 11 or later. A .zip is also available.

    Download the disk image

    Download Mel-macos.dmg from the download page.

  2. 02
    Drag Mel to Applications

    Open the disk image and drag Mel to your Applications folder. That is where updates install.

    Open Mel

    Double-click Mel. It is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so there is no Gatekeeper warning.

    Allow folder access

    macOS asks the first time Mel opens Desktop, Documents or Downloads. Approve each prompt, or grant Full Disk Access once. Read more

After you install

Start the agent

    Open a project

    cd into a project folder. The terminal needs no account and no key.

  2. 02
    Sign in for the agent

    The AI agent needs a free Mel account. Sign in with Apple, Google, GitHub or email.

  3. 03
    Add a key, or use credits

    On the Free plan, add your own provider key in Settings → AI. On Pro, Max or Business, Mel's credits work with no key.

  4. 04
    Ask in plain English

    Say what you want built or fixed. You approve the steps you choose to approve.
